Garfield

The feel of an early onset of winter confirmed was confirmed by the heavier playing conditions on Saturday with the clubs woollen beanies being a hot seller. ‘

Saturday was medal day and attracted a field of 93, not bad considering the chill factor, with David Kitchen being the winner with a round of net 66 playing off his mark of 20, the three shots clear of the next best in Peter Bogart and Bob Collins. Shane Male, again, had the best A grade scratch round with a score of 80.

the aforementioned Collins had 86 for the best B grade round whilst Rob Morris won the C grade round with a score of 96.

Proving just how difficult the scoring was the fact that just the three birdies on the par threes were scored for the day.

A final score of net 74, higher than usual, was needed to get a ball down the line. John Blair is a golfer enjoying a good recent run by winning Monday’s event with an A grade score of 35 points and scoring the two nearest the pins on Saturday.

Blair defeated both Glenn Whelan and Reg Beyer on a count back decision whilst Charlie Hardy won the B grade event with the day’s best total of 37 points.

On thursday an average field of 53 turned out in the cold but fine conditions, Don Stark had the day’s best result with a fine score of 38 points to get the C grade win over Gary Kelly by the three points.

Craig Cousin capped off a good week, with an A grade handicap runners up on Saturday with a score of 71 and also getting the A grade win on thursday with a score of 36 points to defeat Peter Medwin, playing his first thursday in years by the one point.

Tony Mafodda, yet another in form golfer, got the B grade win with a score of 35 points to defeat Des Kerr and Dek Bell by a count back decision.

A paltry score of the 31 points or better was good enough to get a ball down the line.

Saturday is the first of two rounds of the four ball par championship. Everyone will be pleased to see the new green taking shape for the par four third, the sooner it is available for play the better, as the temporary green has an even more severe slope on it than the old green adding further woe to ones putting intentions.
