Cartoons kick off Red Shield Appeal

-

The Salvation Army's Red Shield Appeal in Baw Baw is up and running.

A special fundraising event is being held at Sallie's Seconds Thrift Shop at 57 Smith Street Warragul this Saturday.

Herald Sun cartoonist Mark Knight will be in the store from 10am to 12pm doing sketches for a $20 donation to the appeal. Music will be played by members of the Warragul Salvation Army Brass Band from 11am to 12pm. Funds received from shop items sold will also go to the Red Shield Appeal.

Warragul Salvation Army, new officers (ministers), Majors Jenni and Lindsay Frost, and shop manager Sally Wastie, encouraged people to come down, support the event and help those in need while enjoying some thrift shop shopping and fun together.

Over the past two years, the Salvos have been able to assist those in the community through the lockdown and continue to provide support, particularly for those finding life tough at present as the cost of living continues to spike.

The requests for support are increasing, according to a Warragul Salvation Army spokesperson. Sallies' Seconds will be one of the main donation points in the region on Saturday. Sallies' Seconds is a huge supporter of The Salvation Army's work in Warragul, which seeks to address local needs and work on projects to support further needs unfolding in the community.

The primary weekend for the Red Shield Appeal is May 28 and 29. However, collecting has begun at Bunnings and other locations in the community with many locals dropping coins and notes into collecting buckets.
