Car break-in spree are related incidents

Police believe a spate of thefts from motor vehicles on Tuesday, May 17 and the early hours of the following morning are connected.

The alleged thefts started in Trafalgar and spread to Yarragon, Warragul, and Drouin. Police believe a total of 10 thefts are connected.

Two people police believe were involved in the thefts were spotted on CCTV looking into a parked car with a torch and breaking a car window. One was wearing a grey hoodie, and the other was wearing a mask and gloves.

Sometime after 6.45pm on Tuesday and 4.40am the next morning, unknown offenders gained entry to a Ford Territory in Campbell St Yarragon. Sets of keys were taken from the vehicle.

Around the same time, a laptop was taken from a Volkswagen Golf parked on Collingwoo­d Street in Trafalgar.

An Engel fridge and a battery box were taken from the solid canopy of a Mitsubishi Ute on Gaston Street in Trafalgar, and a large number of Milwaukie power tools with R T engraved on them were taken from the toolbox of a Ford Ranger on Loch Creek Road Trafalgar.

A Kathmandu jacket and Mimco purse were taken from an unlocked Kia on Kent St in Warragul, and a Toyota Corolla was also broken into behind Wellways on Smith St, however, nothing was taken.

In Drouin, two bags of tools, including Makita and Paslode branded tools were taken from a Commodore station wagon on Manallack Lane. A wallet and an impact drill were also taken from the vehicle.

A wallet was also taken from a Hyundai on Chiswick Crescent Drouin. Offenders smashed the front driver’s side window to access the wallet.

Footage recovered by police shows the two people believed to be involved returning to a red Commodore sedan with a sunroof and spoiler.

The vehicle had been stolen from a retirement village in Moe before the spate of thefts occurred, and was captured on footage at Guns Gully service station at 2.50am on Wednesday.

Later, the same car was spotted at a Caltex service station in Officer at 6am on Wednesday.
