Footy pavilion opens
The Warranor Junior Football Club’s spectators pavilion officially opened at Warragul’s Logan Park earlier this month.
The official opening was attended by club members, pavilion sponsors, Baw Baw Shire community recreation officer David McMahon and Member for Monash Russell Broadbent.
Club president Katrina Adlington said the club had been raising funds for the pavilion since 2018, stage one of a three-part project.
Completion of this stage of the project was made possible by a number of local sponsors, including businesses and club members, $10,000 from the Baw Baw Shire’s Capital Works Program, and $50,000 from the Australian Government’s Community Sporting Infrastructure program.
“This is stage one...we think that it is going to be around another $100,000 to complete the whole thing, which will include more spectator areas and also a canteen and storage,” she said.
“This was built towards the end of last season.”
Ms Adlington explained that before the pavilion was erected spectators experienced some difficulties, especially on rainy days.
“There’s nowhere to stand previous to this if it was raining. So it was not that great, to be honest,” she said.
“It definitely helped... you still get a good view of the oval.”
WJFC has 123 young players registered to play this season. It has mixed teams from under 10s to under 14, as well as under 12 and under 14 girl-only teams - which Ms Adlington said the club is “pretty proud” of.
WJFC vice president Matt Walker thanked previous club committee members for their contribution to the project and sponsors who helped them get the pavilion and the club’s new digital scoreboard.
