Connecting with friends at local Community Hub

-

Ashlee looks forward to the Hospitality program at Yooralla’s Drouin Hub on Tuesdays.

“I enjoy cooking, especially making the yummy desserts.

I also just like hanging out at the Hub and seeing all my friends and support workers,” said Ashlee.

She also finds the Drouin Hub to be a safe and supportive environment.

“Being at the Hub helps with my mental health.

The staff are always there to help and there if I need to talk.

They always make me laugh and feel happy. I always feel welcome and safe at the Hub.” Drouin Hub Manager, Shannon Fischer and the staff design individual programs to suit people with disability.

Programs are created collaboratively with staff, local TAFEs, community groups and clients.

Yooralla’s Drouin Hub has recently extended its hours.

It means there is more time to combine skill building and socialising by using public transport to and from events and program activities. Going to the city for an outing is now possible. “It’s given people more time to achieve their goals,” said Shannon.

New clients are supported to settle into activities by joining ‘Come and Try’ sessions and transition programs.

“This allows us to get to know the person and their support needs,” said Shannon.

For people thinking about joining a program for the first time, Ashlee encourages them to have a go. “It’s good fun and you won’t regret it!”
