Men’s shed back in full swing at Bunyip

-

The Bunyip Men's Shed is once again meeting every Wednesday, and is welcoming men of all abilities to come along and join in the friendly "blokey" environment.

The Shed caters to those who enjoy doing hands-on work on projects as well as those who want to enjoy the company of others and sit and chat.

The main purpose of a men's shed is to provide for the health and well-being of the men attending the shed - assisting to reduce the social loneliness, isolation and, depression. Sheds provide a safe and friendly environment where the men can talk, learn new skills, pass on life skills, be a part of a bigger community, and be involved in meaningful activities and projects.

Men's sheds offer many different things, however those that attend appreciate that the biggest part is the mateship or friendships.

Being unemployed, retrenched, or retired, many men no longer have someone to talk to, be it sports, politics, health, or just a sounding board for the many changes that are occurring within their lives. The friendships that are formed at a shed allow these discussions to occur. Participation in meaningful activities or projects also gives confidence and pride and a sense of accomplishment in completing these activities and projects.

The Bunyip Men's Shed was established nine years ago and currently has 24 members. Annual membership is $20. Free tea and coffee are provided. Those wishing to stay for a meal, such as hamburgers, sausages, hot dogs, and hot chips, can for $6. The last Wednesday of each month is 'Steak Wednesday'.

President is Lewis Brown, vice president Steve Wells and secretary/treasurer is Tim Cavanagh.

The shed is inviting the men of the district to come along and see for themselves what is on offer. There is no charge for the first time and all are welcome to stay for lunch.

The Shed is open every Wednesday from 9.30am to 2pm. Fore more information contact Tim Cavanagh on 0458 142 727.
