Community bank funds for groups
The Drouin and District Community Bank held its 2022 grants recipients' cheque presentation last week.
The presentation was attended by several community groups and organisations that received grants from the bank to continue work in the community.
Bank board chairman Rod Dunlop opened the event, which included an official presentation, video viewing, morning tea, and the bank's 20th birthday celebration cake cutting.
Amongst those receiving grants were the Warragul Croquet Club, Drouin Men's Shed, Baw Baw Food Relief, Lyrebird Village for the Aged, Committee for Drouin, Drouin Bowls Club, St Vincent de Paul Drouin, Sonshine Toy Library, Longwarry Lions Club, and Live 4 Life.
Representatives from each group received a certificate and gave a short address to those in attendance. Each person explained the significance of their group to the area and gave sincere thanks to the bank for its help.
All stayed around for a morning tea afterward and used the opportunity to network with other organisations.
Mr Dunlop said the morning tea was a highlight of the presentation each year, as many groups can help each other out.
Drouin Men's Shed's David Mudge said the grant they received has helped the group purchase two air conditioners for their offices and computer rooms.
"Without assistance, we would not be able to run," he said.
Isabel McClean, of St Vincent de Paul, echoed his sentiments. She said that the grant would go towards assembling the group's Christmas hampers, which go to those who may not be able to afford Christmas otherwise.
"Without your help, families wouldn't have the Christmas they do," she said.
