Comedy serves up laughs

-

Mayhem will ensue when hilarious comedy “El Diablo” arrives at Wesley of Warragul on Saturday at 7.30pm.

Produced by one of Gippsland’s premier original theatre companies, this new show guarantees laughs and a highly entertaining evening of comedy theatre.

Set in a high-class restaurant, the Here, There and Everywhere Theatre Company production centres on an ordinary couple experiencing fine dining for the first time.

When average couple Paul and Maurine finally get a booking at the ritzy and popular El Diablo restaurant, they look forward to hobnobbing with celebrities and wealthy social elites. But their preconceptions are soon shattered and their evening turns pear-shaped upon the arrival of so-called upper-crust couple Ian and Siobhan.

“This is fish out of water, clash of cultures comedy, sending up the whole pretentious foodie thing and shining a light on just how ridiculous gourmet dining actually is” says writer/director Phillip A Mayer. “It’s so much fun throwing normal people into this alien world where pompous, overblown and self-important people look down on them, as if they don’t belong. It’s something everyone can relate to, feeling excluded and judged.”

He said the comedy was inspired by people complaining they weren’t able to go to expensive restaurants during COVID lockdown.

“It’s part observational comedy, with a big helping of farce and fantastic characters. We’ve had audiences in stitches watching the train wreck unfold.”

The company started touring in November and audiences immediately responded.

“Audiences obviously have a thirst for something funny because we’ve been selling out everywhere,” Mr Mayer said.

“We’re really excited to get back to Warragul,” he added. “We’ve developed a great relationship with audiences who love to see something new and different on their doorstep, and local audiences who enjoy a good inappropriate laugh.”

This award-winning Gippsland company have performed hit Melbourne Comedy Festival shows including “Couples!”, “Table 17”, and “Bogan Shakespeare”.

El Diablo is showing at Wesley of Warragul on Saturday for one night only.

Tickets are $22.50 per person and can be booked at trybooking.com/BZAWO or by calling 0409 878 688. Limited tickets may be available when doors open at 7pm ahead of the show at 7.30pm.
