Healey inclusion gives Gulls win

-

Warragul’s A grade side travelled to Sale with confidence and walked away with their second win of the season.

A grade: Warragul 49 defeated Sale 30

With the inclusion of young gun Myah Healey into the A grade line-up gave confidence.

Myah is a VNL player and has played many junior and senior seasons for the Gulls. With this inclusion, the team were able to utilise Ella Rees in the defensive line.

The girls started strong, leading 11-7 at quarter time. Coach Kim Weller made some great changes at quarter time to extend the half-time lead to seven goals.

With great defensive pressure, the Gulls got some crucial turnovers, especially Jamie Rollinson. She then worked hard to get back into the ring and put the shot up.

At the three-quarter time break, Kim made a couple changes. Mia McGarrity was put in wing defence and came out firing with fresh legs, four intercepts for the quarter and playing a vital role in keeping Sale to just six goals.

B grade: Warragul 42 lost to Sale 43

A great game of netball saw the Gulls so close to victory, loosing by one goal in the last seconds of the game.

Coach Bec O’Halloran was well deserved best on court for her strong defensive pressure across the court.

Shooters Sophie Fennell and Naomi Allardyce worked seamlessly together in the attacking end, withstanding the pressures of the intense game. They received the other awards in what was a great team effort.

C grade: Warragul 22 lost to Sale 32

It was a disappointing day for the Gulls.

With some keys players out, the girls were no match for the very strong Sale side.

The team are looking forward to reflecting on the game to come back stronger the next time the teams meet.

17 and under: Warragul 17 lost to Sale 62

A very strong start from Sale forced the Gulls to make some changes.

When the changes were made, the Gulls were able to convert off more centre passes and get crucial intercepts.

With the weather quite warm, the girls did great to run out the game and keep their heads up in what was a hard game against a very good opposition.

15 and under: Warragul 3 lost to Sale 90

A tough day of netball for the Gulls.

The team’s best on Ella Black displayed great skill in defence and proved to be a handful for the Sale attackers.

Milla Tworkowski also received an award for her relentless determination against a skilled Sale side.

13 and under: Warragul 7 lost to Sale 45

A solid game against a strong opposition. The Gulls did not give up, maintaining defensive pressure for the entire game.

Elizabeth Kuol was best on court for her versatility in both goals and defence.

Awards went to Isabelle Nash for her consistent pressure in the midcourt and Rharni Cooper for her determination.
