Car owners told to lock up amid thefts

Car owners have been told to “lock-up” after police have reported another spate of thefts from cars in Warragul for the second consecutiv­e week.

Immediatel­y following a week of thefts from cars around the Yarragon, Warragul and Drouin areas, a number of cars were again hit in the Warragul area over the past week.

Police reported the majority of vehicles were left unlocked and have urged vehicle owners to lock-up and remove valuables.

Many of the incidents occurred in the Affleck St, Scenic Drv and Bowen St areas overnight on Tuesday night.

A white Holden utility in Affleck St was targeted two nights running by offenders but police said nothing was stolen.

A fuse box, coins and a quantity of tools were stolen from a Mitsubishi Canter truck that was ransacked in Affleck St.

In Scenic Rd, an unlocked Holden Commodore parked in the driveway of a home was ransacked. Coins and glasses were stolen but police said offenders left a number of electrical items.

A Ford Ranger and Skoda parked in the carport of a Bowen St property were both broken into. Police said owners admitted the cars were probably left unlocked.

Makita drills and a Stihl chainsaw were stolen from the Ford while a set of tailor made golf clubs was stolen from the Skoda.

A wallet, headphones and a set of truck keys were stolen from a Suzuki Swift parked in Watt St, Warragul overnight on May 22.

Another spate of thefts unfolded overnight on Wednesday night at properties around Warragul.

Locked tool boxes on a Mitsubishi tray truck were broken into in Stoddarts Rd. Police said offenders stole a range of tools including impact drivers, drills, rattle guns, ratchet guns, torches, batteries and charges.

Police patrolling streets on Wednesday night noticed hazard lights activated in an Audi hatch parked on the nature strip of a Witton St property.

When they assessed the car, police could see the glove box had been searched through and the passenger door was open. Police alerted the owners.

A Toyota Hilux also was broken into in Witton St on the same night but nothing was stolen.

Police believe security cameras mounted on a fence alerted offenders who left a Pandanus Crt property at 4.25am.

Police said a man was captured on security footage approachin­g a white Hi-ace van. Once aware of the cameras, the man left the scene.

The victim was alerted to the offender and went outside, where he saw the man get into a white Commodore parked up the street.
