Join drama camp
Scholarships are on offer to attend an intensive winter drama camp near Yarragon in early July.
The volunteer-run camp is for youth aged 13 to 21 years with an interest in performing arts. It is a chance to train with likeminded youth led by industry professionals who have diverse industry experience and a passion for helping to develop young artists.
The Theatrecraft Youth Unlimited winter camp will run from Monday, July 4 to Saturday, July 9 at Allambee Camp, with a focus on script writing.
“The camp will be focused on developing creative ideas to become scripts for potential future development,” said project coordinator Joanne Watt. “We have an idea that maybe with future work there is potential to develop the scripts into a suite of printed scripts that could be shared and used by others.”
Through workshops, participants will develop their ideas on lucid writing and collaborative script development.
Ms Watt said camp leaders would include Gippslanders who have gone from local community theatre to further studies and independent arts activities. They return to these camps because they value their collaborative and cooperative nature and value chances to work face-to-face with other young creatives.
The camp costs are $600 all inclusive, including the theatre program, accommodation, food and specific transport. Ms Watt said scholarships of $250 to $200 were on offer as well as discounts if enrolled in multiple camps for 2022.
“Generous community support means we can offer four scholarships - part attendance fees,” she said.
In addition, interest is now welcome for a spring drama camp at Allambee Camp from Saturday, September 24 to Thursday, September 29. This camp will offer rehearsal skills and performance readiness workshops with particular emphasis on direction and play building. It will include an informal performance outcome based on work created during the winter drama camp.
