BATTLE STATIONS
INTERCEPTOR
Streaming, from
Friday, Netflix
There’s a new action hero on the block, and she’s tough as nails. As battle-bruised US Army Captain JJ Collins, Spanish model-actress Elsa Pataky is a tour de force. What else could you expect when her training partner is Thor himself, aka Pataky’s husband and Interceptor executive producer Chris Hemsworth?
In this close-quarters thriller, Collins – a former Pentagon staffer who was drummed out of her dream job – finds herself in charge of an isolated nuclear missile interceptor base in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It’s the last assignment she had in mind. As Collins’ colleague Marshall (Rhys Muldoon) puts it: “Everyone wants to be anywhere but here.”
When the base itself is threatened by a simultaneous co-ordinated attack, Collins becomes the last line of defence as seven terrorists make their way through the vessel, with the ultimate goal of taking the command centre.
Locked inside the heart of the facility, she comes face-to-face with the charismaticyet-crooked Alexander Kessel (Luke Bracey, Hacksaw Ridge), a former intelligence officer carrying out an unthinkable plan: to steal 16 nuclear missiles and launch them at key US cities. In a race against time, Collins must put years of tactical training and military expertise to use if she is to stop the mission.
Filmed in New South Wales, this original action thriller is a strong showing for Fast Five star Pataky, along with Aussie writer-director Matthew Reilly in his first filmmaking foray.
