Past, present and future on show

-

The Yarragon Past Present and Future Expo has been hailed a success by event organisers and attendees.

On June 4 and 5 event organisers opened the doors of Yarragon Public Hall to showcase the town's rich past, present and future.

Complete with historical artefacts, images and clothing, the expo demonstrated what life would have been like when the town was first settled, and what it has to offer in the present day. More than 800 people attended the event.

Local tango dancers got the crowd excited, showing off their moves and encouraging others to join their group.

Faye Vandyke of the West Gippsland Genealogical Society congratulated organisers on their efforts, calling the expo a worthwhile and enjoyable weekend.

"Tini and Jen and their teams excelled themselves, and we often don't appreciate the sheer hard work and dedication it takes to create a weekend of this proportion," she said.

"Well done."

Ms Vandyke also gave special thanks to society members Beryl Weekley, Lynne Bickers, Heather Clarke, Barbara Clayton, Janice Swan and Jan Turner.

The society had a display of records, including its book of headstone transcriptions of Yarragon Cemetery with details of the parents of the deceased, a transcription of the Yarragon Light Horse Brigade register, the Yarragon and Yarragon South School registers, the Narracan Shire rate transcription from 1927 to 1954 and Narracan Shire valuations with landholders' names as printed in local newspapers from 1883.

Organiser Tini Cook said the event was a great success and lots of wonderful comments "made all the hard work worthwhile".
