Yarragon’s 2022 Past, Present and Future

Expo has kickstarted the consultation process for the Waterloo 3823 residential housing development.

Dale Cook, co-director of developer, Robato, said he had many in-depth conversations with Yarragon residents at the Expo.

“It was fantastic to talk to so many locals and hear their hopes for Yarragon. They love this town for its art, culture and community, and these are all things I want to preserve,” Cook said.

Following on from the Yarragon Expo, Robato will work with a dedicated community advisory group.

They will also invite arts and environmental sustainability groups to contribute to the precinct.

Cook said he was genuinely interested in the ideas and concerns of local residents, sports clubs, and traders.

“I’ve been coming to Yarragon since I was a kid,” he said.

“The natural setting and community feel are what make this place so special. That’s why

I’m eager to hear feedback from local people,” Cook said.

Chris Constantine from Millar Merrigan, the local land development consultancy to Robato, feels previous plans for the town may have missed the point by promoting change that may have been out of character.

He said the culture and heritage that attracted people to Yarragon in the past was exactly what young families and retirees moving out of regional and urban centres were seeking today.

“The speed at which the first stage of Waterloo 3823 sold out was a surprise to us, until we looked at our new residents. Almost all of them are Warragul locals or people living in the surrounding area.

They want to stay near their families and see the Strzelecki Ranges out of their living room window,” Constantine said.

“We want Waterloo 3823 to set the standard for how Victoria’s towns can grow and thrive, while being sensitive to local community and environmental needs.”

Waterloo 3823 represents a $145.6 million investment in community infrastructure, environmentally sensitive housing and flooding mitigation for the Yarragon community. Independent reports estimate Waterloo 3823 will boost the Yarragon economy, delivering an expected $12.8 million per year in retail spending stimulus. Local traders will be supported with new and consistent patronage to grow and sustain their business, to the benefit of Yarragon residents.
