The Warragul and District Garden Club talk at the June meeting was by member June Dineen who spoke on the history of trees in and around Warragul. There were some great historical slides of Warragul and some of the trees being planted that are still surviving in the town that should be preserved.

June belongs to a group that is assessing and listing the significant trees which are an asset to us and of historical value. There are many significant trees in Warragul area and these need to be saved from development now and in the future. A wonderful talk and slide show.

There is an upcoming trip to Garden World and Crystal World in Melbourne on Thursday, August 4. Bookings required at the July meeting.

The next meeting will be Monday, July 25 and new/prospective members are invited to attend. The club has an interesting speaker, Paul Kirkpatrick from Gardenacious who will present to members ‘The Secret Garden of Wendy Whiteley’. Paul is a horticulturist, writer and lecturer and members are excited to have him visit the club.

Wendy Whiteley is a notable cultural figure who posed for her husband, Brett Whiteley, many times. He was an Australian artist who is represented in the collections of all the large Australian galleries, and he won many awards including the Archibald(twice). She is also well known for the restoration and landscaping of derelict railway land in Lavender Bay, Sydney, which she turned into a ‘magic garden’ and members members are looking forward to Paul bringing it to life.

The flower of the month for July is ‘Three different camellias’ and the arrangement theme is ‘Christmas in July’.

Members – don’t forget to start striking some plants in preparation for the plant sale in September.
