The Warragul and District Historical Society Open Week held in June was very successful with many people visiting to see the art works that were on display.

The Sunday concert featuring the old pedal cabinet reed organ, dated at 1885, was very well attended.

Albert Fox with his daughters Janine Carstein playing the organ accompanied by Kerryn Curio on violin gave a pleasant ‘old fashioned’ concert.

To conclude the afternoon Albert performed a few of his magic tricks to the amusement and pleasure of those attending.

Many entered the lucky number competition with Anne Connelly winning the book “Warragul Progress Through a Century.” Second prize of “Warragul From Then to Now 1876 to 2020” was won by Stan Walker from Sale and third prize of “A Walk through Gippsland” went to Barb Williamson.

The guest speaker for June was Gary Surman who gave members quite an insight into the life of a shire engineer during his time with the Buln Buln Shire, the state of the roads at that time needed much done to them so quite a challenge.

On Monday July 25 the society will be holding the annual meeting for the forthcoming year of 2022/2023. All positions will be declared vacant ready for new elections of office bearers and committee members.

Baw Baw Shire mayor Michael Leaney will be attending the meeting to chair the elections and will then address those present.

His topic will be about Walhalla, where he lives, and his involvement with preserving the history of the area. Visitors are welcome to the meetings which commence at 7.30pm in the Old Shire Hall at 72 Queen Street, Warragul.
