Strong weekend for United juniors

-

Warragul United’s juniors sides enjoyed a successful weekend, winning two matches while drawing another.

Under 10 boys: Warragul defeated Lynbrook 3-2

Scorers: Harry Lee 3

Under 11 boys: bye

Under 13 girls: Warragul defeated Seaford 3-1 The Warragul United under 13 girls team beat Seaford FC on Sunday in cold and windy conditions, winning three goals to Seaford's one in their first win of the season.

The forwards were getting lots of the ball in the first half with Summer Spencer first to score early in the game and a second goal scored by Alana Wilson not long after.

Both continued to be dangerous forward with some great crosses to each other and shots on goal as Summer added a third goal late in the second half.

The Warragul midfield this week was a highlight where all the girls played well. Jenny came out strong in the mid with some great tackling and spot on passes. Amelia Freeth & Amelia Williams did well in the midfield this week too with great positioning and good passing forward.

The team was pleased to have Anika back this week playing defensive mid with Georgia who is becoming very versatile back or forward winning the ball easily.

Edith Box played one of her best games down the wing, outpacing every opponent with good clearances and on-ball pressure closing down the opposition.

Asha Earwicker teamed up with Taleah in defense in the backline for the first half, making good use of the sideline and getting lots of the ball.

Ruby Reid in goals has again stopped a number of shots early, keeping the Seaford girls scoreless for the first half.

In the second half Asha and Ruby swapped, giving Ruby a chance to use her speed to pressure the midfield into turnovers while Asha kept Seaford to one goal in the second half of the game with some great saves.

Under 13 boys: Warragul drew 3-3 with Lynbrook

The under 13 boys travelled to Cranbourne on a dark and gloomy Sunday.

The signs were ominous, yet United started strongly scoring the first two goals through Hamish Crosbie and Harrison Sharp.

Lynbrook struck back before Hamish doubled his tally, sending United to a 3-1 lead at half time.

United's defence was strong and Sam Willems as stand in goal keeper was doing a wonderful job.

Lightning, thunder, hail and a resurgent Lynbrook made the going tough for United in the second half. Unfortunately Lynbrook scored two goals in the soggy conditions, ending the game in a 3-3 draw.

The under 13 boys remain undefeated and top of the ladder. Well done.
