Winsome wins award

-

A local Year 12 student who graduated last year has been recognised for her achievements in the Premier's VCE Awards.

Marist-Sion College student Winsome Sheehy received a 2021 Study Award for her work in VCE unit Religion and Society.

Only students who achieve a study score of 46 or above are eligible for an award, which is calculated using the enrolment base in that study.

The awards are intended to recognise students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the Victoria Certificate of Education.

A total of 296 Study Awards were presented across all VCE studies.

Marist-Sion principal Lisa Harkin said Winsome was remembered by the college as "a persistent student" who set high standards and worked hard to achieve her goals.

"Winsome was awarded a 99.6 ATAR score for her efforts. She achieved the highest study score with a perfect study score of 50 in English, another perfect study score of 50 in Religion and Society."

"Winsome's legacy is more than a score; it is a legacy built on character, humility and discipline. A lesson for us all," she said.

Originally from Trafalgar, Winsome said she not only found Religion and Society interesting but also had a "helpful teacher", which helped her stay motivated throughout the year.

"I'm at the University of Queensland and I'm doing a Law and Arts degree... I'm hoping to go into Criminal Law."

Winsome said she would encourage incoming Year 12 students to think of the final year

of school as an "opportunity rather than an immensely difficult year."

"It is only less than a year, and it seems so minor in the grand scheme of things, yet it can have a huge impact on your future outcomes," she said.

Winsome said her major supports in Year 12 were her parents and her teachers.
