Moonlight market attracts big crowd

-

Old Gippstown's Moonlight Market is being called a "huge success" but event organisers.

About 5000 people attended the market, which was sponsored by the Victorian Men's Shed Association and Latrobe Health Assembly.

The market boasted over 80 stalls, food vans, and several activities and displays including fire twirling demonstrations, horse and carriage rides, real snow, marshmallow toasting and live music.

As part of the event, the heritage park revealed a new memorial wall to the public, which was built to recognise those that have served Australia. Moe RSL President Steve Mayers and Park Manager Tina Forte led the unveiling.

"As part of a Navy dedicated family, the armed services are close to my heart, and I hold all our service men and women from past and present in high regard," Ms Forte said in a speech.

The wall displays several statues and plaques that commemorate every major conflict Australia has been involved in from 1860 to the present day.

An Old Gippstown spokesperson said the team at Old Gippstown said they thanked the many busineeses who supported the event. They also thanked the stall holders, organisations, sponsors and the community for making it a "fantastic event for everyone involved".

They also thanked the Victorian State Government for showing their support for the project through the Victorian Veterans' Council 'Victoria Remembers' Grant Program, without which the memorial wall could not have been built.

Old Gippstown is a heritage park located in Moe and is dedicated to preserving historically significant buildings from the Gippsland region.

With 80 per cent of the buildings being the original, the park offers a truly unique experience of stepping back in time. Situated on eight acres of land, Old Gippstown has many more events happening this year, including the Revs and Rubber Father's Day car show on September 4 and a Wedding Expo in December.
