Dusties take it to Traralgon
Warragul Industrials Youth Girls went out with a nothing to lose attitude in the semi-final clash against the undefeated Traralgon.
Although the opposition proved too strong with a 7.9 (51) to 1.0 (6) win, Dusties put up plenty of fight. Unfortunately, the loss ends what was a very successful season for the youth team.
Playing at Traralgon, excitement exploded in the first five minutes when the Dusties followed up Traralgon’s quick first goal with their own. The goal was kicked by Georgia Keeble.
It shocked the Traralgon side, who now knew it would be a serious competition and they needed to pick up their game. At the end of the first quarter, Traralgon lead 20-6.
The Dusties fought hard in the second and third quarters, tackling well and slowing down Traralgon’s usual ability to lead play and clear the ball. However, the strength of Traralgon’s kicking helped with their ability to score, increasing their lead at half-time to 42-6.
The rain set in slowing the play, but the determination of the girls was fierce. The Dusties continued to give it their all, keeping the three-quarter time score to 51-6.
The Dusties continued to play strongly to the end, keeping Traralgon scoreless in the final quarter. This was a testament to their attitude and unforgiving effort for the team, coach and club.
The growth and improvement of the team throughout the season had been rewarded with a finals berth and finishing near the top of the ladder. The club and families are proud of the girls and excited for the 2023 season.
