Eagles too strong for Gulls

Warragul came agonisingl­y close to victory in A grade, but ultimately Maffra proved too strong at home on Saturday.

A grade: Warragul 37 lost to Maffra 39

A very wet day made for tough conditions for Warragul’s A graders.

Defenders Renee Cook and Alex Coke gave their everything in the ring against a very strong Maffra side.

A half-time swap saw Ella Rees moved from goals to defence and Naomi Allardyce into the goal ring, which gave the Gulls the spark they were after.

The girls fought their way back and were goalfor-goal for the last quarter, but unfortunat­ely were not unable to secure the win.

B grade: Warragul 33 lost to Maffra 55

A wet game saw the Gulls beaten by a stronger Maffra side.

Best on: Bec O’Halloran.

Awards: Naomi Allardyce and Lily Sheehan.

C grade: Warragul 37 lost to Maffra 44

The wet conditions did not work in Warragul’s favour today against a very strong Maffra side.

The Gulls gave everything, with their strong attacking end working tirelessly to keep up with Maffra. However, they were unable to do so.

Best on: Olivia Brady. Awards: Kim Weller and Bella Hefford.

17 and under: Warragul 27 lost to Maffra 34

Rainy conditioni­ngs slowed the game down straight away between these two teams.

Maffra starting stronger, with a three-goal lead at half-time. However, the Gulls continued to stay in the game through accurate shooting by the goalers and crucial turnovers.

Maffra proved to be the better team on the day, winning by seven goals.

15 and under: Warragul 8 lost to Maffra 52

It was a tough day of netball for the Warragul side.

Best on Arabell Looby displayed great skill in the goal ring and midcourt.

Edie Flanagan and Elysia Dalton also received awards for their relentless determinat­ion and defence against a successful Maffra side.

13 and under: Warragul 15 lost to Maffra 64

Rain did not dampen the team’s enthusiasm as they travelled to Maffra for the last away game of the season.

Best on court Zaria Dalton was a valuable midcourt option, applying defensive pressure throughout the game.

Piper Wilson displayed great versatilit­y in both goals and defence, while Olivia Rhodes displayed great positionin­g and was a reliable option in the mid court.
