Camera clubs combine for photo exhibition
The Gippsland Interclub Photographic Exhibition will wrap up on September 17 after just under two months on display at Warragul’s WAS Gallery.
Featuring five local camera clubs, the Warragul Camera Club, Latrobe Valley Camera Club, South Gippsland Camera Club, East Gippsland Photographic Society, and the Sale Photography Club the exhibition showed off all that Gippsland’s photographers have to offer.
On Sunday August 21 the official judging took place amongst official opening celebrations and afternoon tea.
Warragul Camera Club president Bruce Langdon emceed the proceedings and welcomed the three judges Adrian Smith, Lisa Law and Rob Sloan. Mr Langdon also thanked all the helpers who worked to bring about the competition and exhibition.
This year’s winning club was South Gippsland Camera Club, the winning image was ‘Day Dreaming’ by Loz Reilly from the Sale Camera Club, and the winner of the Roy Berriman Award was Loz Reilly for her ‘Day Dreaming’ photograph.
The photograph that was placed second was ‘Time to Fly the Coup’ by Gary Beresford and third place was ‘Bonnie’ by Joan Fawcett from the Sale Camera Club.
Ruth Burleigh from Warragul Camera Club was among those awarded merit awards. Ruth was awarded for her piece ‘Locked Down’.
‘Locked Down’ is a black and white portrait, it was also a contender for a merit award in another interclub competition run by the Camberwell Camera Club.
Ruth said she was “very proud and happy” to have received a Gippsland Interclub merit award for two reasons.
“One, it is good for the Warragul Camera Club to have members of the club receive awards at this competition,” she said.
Competition judge Adrian Smith spoke of the variety and high quality of the images on display and said the judges were unanimous when allocating points.
“And two, because I love creating composite images and
when someone else sees the story I am trying to tell is such a thrill.”
Phil and Anne Henshall attended the official opening and Phil spoke about the Dairies and Old Milking Sheds exhibition which is presently open at WAS Gallery.
The photos, on display, are of many derelict dairies left behind when amalgamation changed the dairy industry and are a result of Warragul Camera Club members who researched and photographed many local old dairies.
Phil thanked Ruth Burleigh and Russell Monson who initiated and created the process for the competition. 15 of the best 47 images can be seen until mid-September.
