Planning underway for national exhibition
Warragul Camera Club will host its 50th anniversary National Photographic Competition in May.
Entries are now open for the national competition with $5000 worth of prizes available. The competition includes both print and digital sections and entries close on March 15.
Photographers entering their work in this year’s competition will be part of a milestone event.
Warragul’s National Photographic Competition began in conjunction with Warragul Rotary Club until the camera club took over running the competition in the mid-1980s.
Former Roylaines camera shop owner Roy Berryman (dec) was president of the camera club at the time and was a driving force behind the national competition.
The national competition is conducted in compliance with the Australian Photographic Society competition rules.
Photographers gain honours according to their achievements for the number of accepted entries and awards.
There are very few APS national competitions held across Australia, with the annual Warragul event one of just three in Victoria. Entries are received from across Australia
The Warragul Camera Club establishes a sub-committee each year to co-ordinate the national competition.
The National Photographic Exhibition will run for three days in May in the West Gippsland Arts Centre featuring entries in a wide number of categories including portrait, landscape, animals and wildlife, abstract, archirecture, still life and creative.
Once again, the national competition will feature the Warragul Gazette readers’ photographic competition with entries showcased at the exhibition as well as the school and students’ sections.
Entries for the readers competition will open at the end of March. Last year’s competition attracted 188 entries
An awards presentation afternoon will be held on May 13 as part of the competition and also will feature winners of the Gazette readers’ compeition. Following the awards presentation, a special 50th anniversary celebration will be held, which will be a ticketed event ($25) including finger food.
