Food and wine for Garfield

-

Local businesses will be showcased in March at The West Gippsland Railtowns Food and Wine Festival.

Food, drink and other products from Nar Nar Goon, Tynong, Garfield, Bunyip and across the state will be available for tasting and purchase at stalls throughout the day.

Among the businesses appearing are Gippsland Jersey, Fleet Wines, Foxee Designs, Krooked Row Wines, and Lockdown Candles.

There will be live music, lawn games and food trucks.

The event has been organised by the Garfield Community Association and will be held in Main St, Garfield.

Event coordinator Erin Polson said the event had been received positively by local businesses who were “keen” to get involved.

Ms Polson said some businesses were even teaming up to create special fusion items.

“We wanted to put our little area on the map,” Ms Polson explained.

She said the area was in a “really unique position”, perfect for events like the festival, as it was easy to access through the railway or while travelling through Gippsland.

Ms Polson said the festival was in line with the West Gippsland Progress Association’s Food and Tourism Strategy, which was created in response to the 2019 bushfires, and provided exposure for local businesses.

The Railtowns Food and Wine Festival is being supported by the Cardinia Shire Council.

Tickets are $20, plus a $2.19 booking fee, and children under 18 are free but must accompany an adult.

Ticket holders will receive a branded nonsingle-use tumbler on entry.

The West Gippsland Railtowns Food and Wine Festival will be held on Sunday, March 5 from 11am to 5pm.
