Neerim district honours local legends at dinner

-

Community focussed women who have dedicated their time to volunteer and supporting local organisations will be celebrated as “local legends” at an International Women’s Day dinner at Neerim South.

Neerim District Progress Association and Neerim District Community House are hosting the “Local Legends” dinner to celebrate the work of dedicated community women.

NDPA president Lynne Wells said over the generations there had been many “marvellous women” who had contributed, volunteered and supported the local community through, helping to fundraise for schools, hospitals and sporting clubs.

She said these women had served as committee members and office bearers, making crafts, cakes and meals to sell for fundraising or send to charities, supporting families emotionally and practically who were going through tough times.

Ms Wells said many of these women contributed their time to community efforts and helping others, while juggling their own family commitments.

Nominations are being made to honour up to 20 women on the night.

The “Local Legends” dinner will be held at Algie Hall on Wednesday, March 8 - International Women’s Day. Tickets are $50 each which include a two course dinner. Drinks will be available at bar prices.

Ms Well said organisers hope between 100 and 150 people from all over the district and all types of community groups will attend to recognise and thank “a few of our amazing women who contribute so much to our community.”

Guest speaker will be former Baw Baw Shire mayor and councillor Debbie Brown.

Tickets are available at the Neerim South Op Shop or email secretary@ndpa.org.au
