The West Gippsland Art Centre will offically launch its 2023 season on Sunday with exciting activities and performances.

The day, which doubles as a belated 40th birthday celebration for the centre, will kick off at 11am with live music on the forecourt and a children’s art space on the lawn.

Warragul Theatre Company will be rehearsing live in the Fountain Room throughout the day for their upcoming musical Jekyll and Hyde and in the afternoon cast members will take the stage to provide a sneak peek of the show.

Kurnai elder Aunty Cheryl Drayton will lead interactive workshops for six people at a time. The workshops will teach people how to burn designs onto possum skins or clapping sticks and will be held throughout the day.

A celebratory speech by Baw Baw Shire Mayor Annemarie McCabe will kick off at midday in the foyer, as will a cake-cutting ceremony.

Wacky Wombat will be out and about on the forecourt providing some roving style entertainment giant bubbles, stilt walking and juggling in the forecourt, and the Warragul Library will host children’s storytime in the foyer.

Venue tours will also continue in intervals throughout the day, allowing visitors to get a glimpse into the backstage area, lower-level dressing rooms, orchestra pit and more spaces generally only accessed by performers and theatre technicians.

DJ Nige will appear after lunch to provide more entertainment.

Off the Leash Theatre be facilitating games of theatre sports in the Fountain Room from 3.30pm.

The festivities will wrap up around 5pm.
