Season launch success at the Wesley of Warragul
The Wesley of Warragul’s season launch “Hear and Now” was held on Sunday, February 12 with great success.
The space was full of fine music and performance lovers, who showed up in hopes to get a glimpse of the exciting year ahead.
Warragul Heritage Preservation Association president Rob Robson introduced the 2023 program on Sunday afternoon.
He said 2023 will hopefully be one of recovery and audience development.
As such the program has been designed to attract back those who were loyal followers before the pandemic and reach out to new audiences, especially those who have moved to Warragul in the last couple of years.
There will be a mix of music ranging from classical recitals to more contemporary acts.
In an effort to invite young people into the space and encourage new audiences, students under 16 will be able to attend a concert free of charge if accompanied by a paid ticket holder.
To celebrate the launch, cellist and guitar duo, Sharon and Slava Grigoryan performed a few well-received arrangements, a teaser of what is to come at the venue this year.
After their performance guests were invited outside to partake in afternoon tea and a selection of wine, before heading back inside to find out what acts will appear on the WOW stage this year.
Notable acts set to appear include Melbourne Chamber Orchestra members and the celebration of Brahms 190 Anniversary, performed by prominent local musician, Brian Chapman along with Susan Pierotti and Zoe Knighton, singer Lior, joined by collaborator singer, Domini Forster.
Some acts will bridge music styles such as Invictus Quartet, who might be found mashing up Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with music by Billie Eilish.
Slava Grigoryan will return in June to perform with his brother Leonard in a concert of works they have composed, inspired by objects in the Australian National Museum collection.
The first concert in the season, performed by virtuosic young indie guitarist and singer, Daniel Champagne will be on Friday, March 10 at 7pm, tickets can be found on Eventbrite.
