Top four dominate

- by Joel Batson

Division 2

The top four flexed their muscles in division two, with one Iona youngster posting a monster score to underline his side's dominant victory. Iona v Ellinbank

Liam Lenders struck a monstrous second century of the year to guide Iona to another dominant victory on the weekend.

Resuming on 2-61 chasing 170, the Swamp Tigers were barely troubled on their way to victory, losing just a further couple of wickets as Lenders almost completed the job singlehandedly.

Once the target was passed, it was time for some fireworks for the gathered Iona faithful as he combined with Jay Riley (38) to tear into a tiring Eagles attack.

Hayden Watson (20*) also provided excellent support in the final-wicket partnership against the likes of Chris Perry (3-82) and Jaxon Notman (2-30), but it was Lenders who caused the carnage.

He struck sixteen boundaries and one towering maximum on the way to 133 not out Iona finishing up on 278, the Swamp Tigers' dream of an undefeated season seemingly coming to fruition.

Hallora v Western Park

A consistent batting display saw Western Park rack up a monster win over Hallora on the weekend.

Resuming on 0-34 chasing 121, Kurtis Harper continued the momentum before he fell. The trend of starts continued throughout the innings as Dale Fawcett (37), Sam Russell (28) and Joe Kitto (26) all left runs on the table before the Warriors eased to victory.

Alex Gavin (58) and James 'Jimbo' Allen (40) continued to push the score northward, before the innings of the day - a maiden half-century from Matt Garner (including four huge sixes) - launched Western Park to 7-336 off their 70 overs.

For the Kangas, Steve Fox (3-62) was as consistent as always, while Sam Whibley (247) got some handy overs in, but ultimately it was a weekend to forget for the proud club.

Warragul v Buln Buln

Todd Mann struck a whirlwind ton as Warragul obliterated a struggling Buln Buln on the weekend.

Resuming having already won chasing the Lyrebirds 79, Matt Wakefield (36) and Mann tore into a demotivated Buln outfit, showing no mercy as they racked up runs for fun.

Wakefield struck seven boundaries whilst the vicious Mann hit ten, with three sixes threatening houses in Warragul North as he made 101 before finally being dismissed by the uber-consistent Andrew Burdett (5-68).

David Wheeler (47) continued to push the score along with four maximums of his own, but a couple of late wickets ultimately ended the day early.

Warragul declared on 9-269, with a surprising decision not to attempt the outright impacting the ladder in the waning weeks of the season.

Jindivick v Garfield-Tynong

Garfield-Tynong used a lower order barrage to claim an easy victory over Jindivick on the weekend.

Continuing the trend of top four victories, the Titans were at least made to earn theirs, reaching the target six wickets down as Luke Hume (4-47), Andrew Pyle (2-47) and Jordan Smith (2-59) fought manfully for the Jumping Jacks.

Once the target was passed however, the floodgates opened. It started with four sixes from Matt Jones (34) and continued through the brilliant Tate Burgmann - the wily veteran winding back the clock, making 80 with thirteen boundaries from number nine - to extend the day.

Garfield ended up reaching 274 all out, giving themselves plenty of batting practice before the climax of the season.
