Hallora tops T20

- by Joel Batson

Hallora has made it two T20 flags on the trot, with a tight, low-scoring victory away from home on Sunday to take out the A grade competition.

Winning the toss and batting, Hallora got off to a whirlwind start that would end up proving pivotal in the end result as Brett Williams (34) went nuclear early.

He combined with Cam McPhan (16) to add 44 in just over four overs, before Sam Batson (3-14) struck, and the squeeze was on from the Warriors.

McPhan fell soon after, as Jack Armour (2-13) too proved impossible to get away as Hallora worked ones and twos to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Jimmy Williams (28) used his promotion up the order to good effect, but his wicket fell at 97 - and a string of wickets followed.

With Fraser Duncan anchoring at the other end, the likes of Mitch Smith (2), Tom Williams (6), Alex Henshall (1) and Lachie Pratt (0) were dismissed without providing much impact, Ellis Whiteford's (2-26) spell helping Western Park into a strong position.

For Hallora, Fraser Duncan (30) held things together, as they reached 9-129 with plenty to play for in the second innings.

In reply, despite the loss of the dangerous Sanjaya Gangodawila (8) early, Western Park looked in decent shape.

Damien Lawrence (17) and Zane Harper (10) helped the home side race to 1-37 before both fell within a couple of balls of each other as Tom Williams (2-17) produced a sensational spell with the new ball.

The visitors then turned to spin, and the squeeze was well and truly in effect, as Sam Batson (27) looked to combat by hitting out.

His and brother Joel's (31*) partnership of 40 brought the Warriors within a sniff of control, but Sam's dismissal was the turning point.

Grant Duncan (3-26) was the catalyst, as he combined with Jimmy Williams (1-13) and Craig Byrnes (0-20) to tighten things up.

Joel Batson was unable to lift the scoring rate, and with wickets tumbling at the other end - namely Jack Armour (4), Jason Croft (2) and Ellis Whiteford (4) - the Warriors completely fell apart, finishing on 8-114 and handing Hallora their first silverware of the season.
