Langley wins it for Longwarry

- by Joel Batson

A ridiculous knock from John Langley has given Longwarry an unlikely B grade flag on the weekend.

Losing the toss and forced to field first, the Crows started strongly as Ben Perry (2-28) and Yashan Samarasinghe (1-19) were dominant early to leave the Hawks 3-45.

Their form also left danger-men Damon Healy (15), Aravinda Akurugoda (5) and Sam Wyatt (0) unable to fire.

Ben Spicer (47) was on hand to repair the damage, as he combined with Tommy Wyatt (the forecasted tornado pushed back from Saturday to Sunday this week in a late change) to push the score past triple figures.

Wyatt finished 28 not out, whilst Jonathan Bell (17) ran hard at the end to give Drouin a defendable total of 5-121.

In reply, Longwarry appeared to be overawed early as none of the top-order got going.

Yashan Samarasinghe (11) couldn't bat long enough to change the game, whilst other key contributors Vidusha Jayasinghe (6) and Ben Perry (4) fell cheaply as Boyd Bailey (3-27) produced what appeared to be a match-winning spell.

The Crows slipped to 7-76, and with all hope appearing lost, John Langley strode to the crease.

The hard-hitting right-hander backed up his form from last week, immediately striking boundaries at will, and while wickets fell at the other end due to Harry McConnell (215), Langley continued to swing for the fences.

Needing 18 off the final two overs, Drouin still looked in control, but Langley (56*) struck 17 off a Boyd Bailey set, before Scotty Kelly (5*) struck the winning runs as the visitors celebrated a memorable victory.
