Drouin images are postcard perfect
Local artwork has been used to capture images of Drouin in a series of postcards for the town.
Aware of requests for postcards with local content, the Committee for Drouin had produced a series of five postcards depicting local artwork and items of historical interest, all printed on recycled card.
The postcards show: Drouin’s “We Need The Trees” mural by Dan Wenn, auspiced by the Committee For Drouin and sponsored by local residents;
Jo Caminiti’s magnificent sculpture, Corymbia Dreaming, which can be seen in Civic Park Drouin;
A painting by Jo Caminiti of one of Drouin’s significant gum trees. Jo was the artist in residence who painted many of the significant and historic town gum trees;
An historic photo of the main street of Drouin; and, An historic photo of Jackie the Lyrebird which became nation famous for its amazing mimicry.
The postcards are available at some Drouin shops, the Drouin and District Community Bank and at some Drouin Rotary markets for $1 each.
The postcards project was financially supported by Drouin and District Financial Services.
The Committee For Drouin is a community based group for people interested in advocating for the betterment of the town. It is responsive to local needs and sets out to achieve both large and small improvements, advocating at government level and by undertaking local actions and activities.
The group is currently rolling out its second “Clean Up Drouin” litter campaign in conjunction with Drouin CWA members who have been busy sewing used produce bags into RATbags which will be supplied to groups wishing to take part in the autumn clean up.
Other recent works have been an audit of the number of and condition of Drouin’s public art and cultural assets with a view to helping shape policy and ensure maintenance of works; research and letters regarding the need for an improved police station and presence; updating town entry signage; consultation and feedback regarding the soon to be finished Drouin Community Hub; consultation and feedback on the Drouin township masterplans; and, working with Drouin Historical Group and Baw Baw Shire on the historic panels depicting Drouin life in the 40s.
