Warragul Ranges Probus Club
The club has begun the year with a rush of activities. Thirty five members were audience guests of the long running show “Millionaire Hotseat” with Eddie McGuire at Channel 9 Docklands studio, with two members winning prizes in the audience raffle.
In early March, 44 members had a coach tour of the Mornington Peninsula, down to the tip at Point Nepean and a tour of the old Quarantine Station. On the way home the group stopped at the Tyabb Packing House to rummage through their remarkable range of mostly second hand ‘collectables’.
The dine-out groups have already ‘dined’ out, the garden group has toured a beautiful garden in Jindivick, the armchair travel has viewed a members photo of Spain, the movie group has seen ‘Champions’ and the book, cards and golf groups have got rolling.
To officially get underway, the club held its annual general meeting to elect a committee in March. All positions were filled, with a great bunch of committed members who will ensure that a great year is ahead of us.
Strzelecki Bushwalking Club
March has been a month of varied opportunities for bushwalkers in the Strzelecki Bushwalking Club.
March 12 saw a group of 17 walkers set out to circumnavigate the Devilbend Reservoir at Tuerong on the Mornington Peninsula. Devilbend Reservoir is a great area for fishing as well as walking. Since 2010 the reservoir has been stocked with 14,000 Rainbow Trout and 21,000 Brown Trout by Victorian Fisheries. This has boosted fishing opportunities for anglers. There has also been a new observation platform for visitors to view birdlife and other natural attractions.
On March 19, a group of club members and visitors completed the Tanglefoot Trail at Healesville. This was a 14 kilometre loop through thick cool rainforest which included many large Mountain Ash trees and lower-level ferns.
A four day paddling camp was based at Eagle Point where participants were able to enjoy the Gippsland Lakes at their leisure.
April also will provide many opportunities for members including an educational day on learning how to read maps - a very handy skill when you are bushwalking.
On April 2, Adrian led a 12km walk at Mount Hedrick, which is near Maffra. On April 16 Jo will lead a walk around the Sale Heritage Trail and Wetlands and on Sunday, April 23 Peter Dyke will lead a 12km walk around the Southern section of Mt Worth.
The April club night will be at the Trafalgar Scout Hall on the 12th, beginning at 7.30pm. Guest speaker this month will be club member Pat Williams who will be talking about her adventures cycling in outback Australia to raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
As always visitors are most welcome to attend, and this is a great way to introduce yourself to club members and get more information in relation to the club.
