Successful season of Big Bash bowls ends
The finals of Warragul Bowling Club’s “Big Bash” was held last week.
Despite the weather threatening, games were played in full sunshine as super spruiker “Janette Gallasch” welcomed the 12 enthusiastic teams to the last night of the competition.
Black Mail had a great battle with Little Corker Bar and Coffee, going down 6-9. This made Little Corker the division two premiers. Congratulations to Ray, Bianca and Simone Tampaline on their win and for their huge improvement across the seven weeks, along with their unwavering good humour.
The fight for division one honours was fierce in the preliminary final. Cheffield Meats, consisting of Melissa Marsden, Col Kearley and Sam Shaw, defeated O’Brien’s Real Estate, consisting of Sarah Fitzpatrick, Harriet Blane and Daniel Sheehan 4-3.
Fairway Views, the team of Rob Hefford, Mark Metcalf and Norm Perry, dominated Commercial Hotel 2, the team of Brooke Hamilton, Matthew Ridley and Reno Sabari, winning 6-1.
Commercial Hotel 1 of Andrew Millar, Nick Derrick and Harley Herber, were too good for Belinda’s Hairdressing, including Belinda Best, Craig Fox and Dave, winning 8-1.
Baw Baw Paws, featuring Becky Bickerdike, Tira Warn and Georgie Patterson, had a tight tussle with Morrison Plumbing, featuring Jock, Jim and Dylan Morrison, coming out victors 4-2. The semis saw some tough matches, with Commercial 1 narrowly defeating Fairway Views Accom 4-3 and Baw Baw Paws downing Cheffield Meats 4-1.
The grand final was played in fading light, with Commercial 1 gaining an early lead before being pegged back by Baw Baw Paws who won 3-2 on the last end.
All teams participated with a sense of fun and also a sense of friendly rivalry.
The club looks forward to the next “Big Bash” to be played on Tuesday nights at 6pm from October 10. Returning teams and new teams will be welcomed in an expanded seven-week competition.
