Eagles win reserves thriller by a point

ELLINBANK prevailed by the barest of margins over Buln Buln in an epic reserves contest, 8-5 (53) to 7-10 (52).

The Lyrebirds held a narrow lead throughout much of the first half, heading into the long break in front 3-7 to 3-3.

The Eagles made their move in the third term, booting five goals to one for a 20-point advantage at the final change.

The Lyrebirds had one final charge left, booting 3-2 to just one behind in the final term to threaten to steal it.

Fynn Hammond, Bryce Monahan, Brody Pritchard, Aaron Warner, Jacob Pickthall and Simon Dawson led the comeback for the Lyrebirds.

Jayson Barwick, Sam Barwick, Ryan Parsons, Ryan Carpenter, Logan Joyce and Nicholas Pratt had earlier helped Ellinbank establish a lead.

A STRONG first half helped Nilma-Darnum break through over Trafalgar, 7-8 (50) to 5-5 (35).

The Bombers kicked the first five goals of the match to set up the result, before the Bloods held a slight edge in the second half.

It marked an impressive 250-point turnaround for the Bombers from their last contest with the Bloods.

Lochie Shaw, Harry Moore, Rhonan Perry, Private player, Brady Einsiedel and Zavier Allsopp helped the Bombers to an early lead.

Helping keep the Bloods in the contest were Jaxen Row, Ben Cunico, Brett Cameron, Kynan Noonan, Luke O'Neill and Zach Gopalan.

CATANI kicked away in the second half to comfortabl­y account for Longwarry, 13-9 (87) to 7-3 (45).

After trailing by three points at the long break, the Blues booted 10 goals to three in the second half.

Liam Watt, Jack Hobson, Thomas Robinson, Josh Miller, Joshua Bethune and Travis Broman helped the Blues kick away.

Leading a competitiv­e first half from the Crows were Luke Clarkson, Bailey Osseweyer, Lucas Kallady, Sam Blake, Aidan Fox and Brock Stanfield.

SIX goals in the second term helped Lang Lang to a big win over Yarragon, 14-11 (95) to 3-1 (19).

A regular in last year's senior side for the Tigers, Jesse Hand led the way with five majors. Andrew Thompson, Cayden Gowans, Daniel Makepeace, Benjamin Brierley and Geordie Wells were also among the better players.

David Bates, Jarryd Kilday, Dean Fitzgerald, Clayton Bawden, Ryan Young and Samuel Perry did their best to stem the tide for the Panthers.

TEN goals to one in the first half helped Neerim-Neerim South to a comfortabl­e win over Nyora, 13-16 (94) to 2-3 (15).

The match petered out in the second half as conditions turned, the Cats booting three goals to one in a dour contest.
