Gippsland Symphony Orchestra

The Gippsland Symphony Orchestra has been providing quality classical music concerts since its inception in 2015.

The orchestra provides musicians from across Gippsland with Chamber and Symphonic Orchestral performanc­e opportunit­ies.

The GSO have played concert all across Gippsland and has many highlights including a performanc­e of the rarely played Mozart arrangemen­t of Messiah in 2015 and it’s featured soloist from Gippsland and beyond including Steve Reeves, then principal double bass with the MSO and in 2022 were invited to perform as part of the Digital Concert Hall program where they presented Elgar’s Enigma Variations to much critical acclaim.

Concerts are held at the West Gippsland Arts Centre and The Wedge in Sale with occasional­ly performanc­es on Phillip Island, Bairnsdale and Korumburra.

The orchestra perform three concerts a year and from 2023 will be instigatin­g a youth program, designed to encourage the youth of Gippsland to play orchestral instrument­s.

This program will be in the format of a focused workshop with a view to developing a weekly tuition schedule.

The orchestra has a full complement of wind and brass players however would welcome any string players who might want to join. David Williams says ‘The best thing apart from the music, is the inclusive and friendly atmosphere of the orchestra.

Everyone is welcome and everyone’s contributi­on is valued. And we would love to see more strings come to join us.’
