Community book fair returns to Yarragon

-

The Yarragon Book Fair will return on May 6 and 7 at the Yarragon Public Hall.

All funds raised support the Yarragon Fire Brigade and Yarragon Primary School Parents Club, enabling volunteer firefighters and the school to purchase vital equipment to better serve their local community.

Yarragon Fire Brigade member and book fair coordinator Geoff Conway said brigade and school volunteers had gathered and sorted a huge stockpile of books to suit every reader.

“Donations of books by local residents as well as charity groups from across eastern Victoria have helped to ensure we can offer amazing quality books at a fraction of ‘new’ prices. Paperbacks are priced from $1, hardcovers $2, and children’s books are $5 for a bag or box.

“Last year the Yarragon Book Fair took on a different look and feel to previous events. This was to accommodate the very important pandemic protections we have all come to understand and apply. These arrangements will continue this year and we have worked hard to ensure a COVIDsafe book fair for the many supporters and organisers involved.

“This fundraiser has been a massive contributor to our fire brigade and the success of local volunteer firefighters in protecting life and properties across the region.

“Our partners in the running of the event, the Yarragon Primary School Parents Club, have added a great sense of fun. The parents, students and staff from the school bring amazing energy to the running of the Book Fair which has generated wonderful bonds within our community,” he said.

Patrons can grab a bargain for every member of the family with paperbacks and hardcovers of every genre on sale across the weekend. Because the space available is limited, tables are being restocked continuously.

Mr Conway said many people attended both days of the fair to see what new stock had been laid out overnight on Saturday.

The fair will be held in the Yarragon Public Hall, 8am to 4pm on both days.
