Bloods beat Blues

- by Davyd Reid

TRAFALGAR continued its winning way, accounting for a plucky Catani 11-7 (73) to 6-8 (44).

With the side undergoing some major change over the off-season and continuing to gel under coach Tom Hallinan, the Bloods have done what they need to get done to open with three wins and put themselves again in the hunt.

Following an Anzac ceremony to open proceedings, a dour battle ensued with the Blues the first to break through mid-way through the first quarter, Lauchlan Gregson converting from a strong mark.

Trafalgar worked into the contest and began to look sharper, finding Curtis Barker for the immediate response.

Matthew Swenson found Andrew Scammell, which would trigger a late charge from the Bloods, adding a further two goals as the Blues began to tire in red time.

Again it would be the Blues to score first, this time through Josh Massett, but again Trafalgar would provide the immediate response.

The Bloods ramped up the pressure to add their sixth, the Blues' cause not helped with key target Gregson sent off for an indiscretion.

Barker slotted his third before Swenson finished the half with a smart checkside, the Bloods ending the half in control with a sixgoal advantage.

Momentum stalled in the third term, the Blues holding Trafalgar to two goals while taking advantage of a double 50 metre penalty, Michael Ralph the beneficiary.

Tyson Robinson, James Williams, Cody Banbury, Jack Roberts, Dylan Williams and Thomas Keily ensuring the Blues would not go down without a fight.

Their work would somewhat come undone as the home side added two majors late, Barker converting another set shot and Matthew Devon producing a good snap.

Barker, Jace Butler, Dylan Farrell, Blake Radford, Mitch Virtue and Aydan Connolly lifted when it counted as the Bloods again assumed control.

Gregson converted a handy snap of his own with Robinson also hitting the scoreboard, as the Blues finished strongly.

But the game was effectively over when Devon converted a dribbler from the pocket to begin the final term, and shut the gate on the Blues.
