Four wins for Hawks

Drouin netballers travelled to Wonthaggi on Saturday to win all three senior grades.

The day started positively, with the youngest Hawks pulling off a victory.

A grade: Drouin 46 defeated Wonthaggi 42

It was a tough four quarter effort from the Hawks as Wonthaggi created intensity and first ball pressure.

Drouin adjusted well and used speech and change of direction to move the defenders.

Defensivel­y, they worked on forcing players high and wide, with big hands over the ball this allowed Kym Diston to come out of the ring and pick off pocket balls.

Lucy McKellar and Kym Diston also rebounded extremely well, setting up the all important conversion goals.

B grade: Drouin 56 defeated Wonthaggi 49

It was a good game for the Hawks, with accurate goaling by Brooke De Riter and Jodie Proctor, who connected well under some immense body pressure.

Some further positive signs for Kylie Proctor who came on towards the end of each quarter for some much desired court minutes.

The defence adjusted after the first quarter, lifting their one-on-one pressure, slowing the ball movement and building pressure. The

May 9 2023 team were happy to get another win on the board.

C grade: Drouin 50 defeated Wonthaggi 26

The wintry conditions arrived, with heavy rain for most of the C grade game.

The Hawks had to slow the ball down to keep control, remaining steady and composed throughout the match.

Drouin took the lead early in the game and held it, increasing the lead every quarter.

It was a full team effort, with hard defence across the court, speed from the midcourter­s and incredibly accuracy from the goalers - including an appearance from Kaylee Nalder.

17 and under: Drouin 28 lost to Wonthaggi 54

The Hawks faced another tough competitor, with Wonthaggi’s defensive pressure and ability to score off every turnover making it a tough day.

Although it wasn’t Drouin’s day, the girls fought hard the whole game and didn’t drop their shoulders.

Jasmine Norton played a fantastic game in wing defence, and even had a run in goal defence where she was also impressive.

15 and under: Drouin 25 lost to Wonthaggi 44

It was a competitiv­e game for the Hawks, with a great three quarter performanc­e Wonthaggi just dominated the second.

Amelia Jarred has taken ownership of the wing defence bib, playing tight one-on-one to force errors and get countless intercepts.

Isabelle Maloney was a model of resilience, shooting more than half of the team’s goals. Her strength under the post paired with her second efforts, meant she was always a reliable option for her feeders in Emmerson Kneebone, Fiona Nalder and Chloe Walsh who were all accurate in their passes.

13 and under: Drouin 22 defeated Wonthaggi 13

The Hawks had a great start to the game against the Power, setting them up to lead throughout the game.

In the second quarter, Wonthaggi proved they weren’t going away and the Hawks lifted for every ball.

Evie Piner took control in wing attack, combining well with Sophie Cassidy in centre to work the ball onto the ring and into the goalers.

Amber Hammond showed her strength and reliabilit­y in goal shooter, shooting beautifull­y.

The Hawks came away with a good win and lots to keep working on at training.
