Support for Deeming

-

Complementary to the views expressed in The Gazette by our local Member of Parliament Wayne Farnham last week I would like to add some other views.

One. Moira Deeming, an elected MP from the Liberal Party, was at the “Let Women Speak” rally as a legitimate representative of more than half the Australian population: women. She and the main speaker did not speak against anybody, only for women: for their right to speak and to have their own private spaces within our society. They were good, fair speeches.

The transgender crowd gathered in opposition hardly had a legitimate argument to present against these rights for women and, if they thought they did, they could have organised their own rally. That’s how people in a free society behave.

Two. For reasons entirely beyond my comprehension, Opposition leader John Pesutto saw fit to publicly voice an offensive negative opinion against his party member. Along the way he garnered some very odd ideas about Ms Deeming, her good name, her motives and associations.

Three. One reason for his accusations was the presence of apparent Nazis who appeared to be escorted by the Victorian Police to stand behind the speakers and give an offensive (to some) salute. Just who these men are or why the police escort has yet to be investigated and ought to be.

Four. It has been downhill all the way since; for the Liberal Party especially two thirds of whom are supporting a clearly failing leadership and who are entirely responsible for this debacle.

In conclusion I would like to say that I fully support Ms Deeming and her legal action to get some kind of justice for herself, her family, and all women.

Let her principal lawyer Patrick George who issued a defamation concerns notice on the May 11 have the final say for today: “These accusations, and the motion to expel her, leaked by you (Mr Pusetto to whom the concerns notice is addressed) to the media to be published as widely as possible, were defamatory of our client, are false, and have caused serious and potentially irreparable harm to her reputation,” reported The Australian.
