Tribute to loved performers

-

The West Gippsland Arts Centre will host a tribute to one of country music's most famous and loved couples, Johnny Cash and June Carter.

'Get Rhythm' will feature songs known and loved for years, including "Folsom Prison Blues", "Walk the Line", "Ring of Fire", "Man in Black", and the famous duets, "Jackson", and "Long Legged Guitar Pickin Man", all being performed by family band, Mark Caligiuri (Johnny Cash) and Joanne Caligiuri (June Carter), and their sons, Lucas (drums) and Christopher (double bass), along with Mark's cousin, Adam (lead guitarist).

The idea for the band came together during the pandemic. Caliguiri, whose been invested in music his entire life – from age 12, Caliguiri, and cousin, Adam would perform guitar gigs with one another – was "very proud," when his sons showed the same interest, dedicating their time in lockdown to practicing and "mastering the country music style".

The idea for the tribute band itself, however, came from Joanne, who from a young age had always been a Johnny Cash and June Carter fan, listening to their music all the time.

Once the show was established, it soon gained popularity around Australia, from the Frankston Performing Arts Centre, where the bands' first show was held, to the Twin Towns Club in Coolangatta, QLD. Caliguiri is currently organising a show which is to be held at the Melbourne Crown, set for October of this year.

The "Get Rhythm" Johnny Cash event will play at WGAC on the 24th of June from 7.30pm, for two hours 15 minutes, including intermission.

Tickets are $55 for members, $63 full price, $58 for concession and groups of ten or more, and $49 for youth.
