Dusties search for sustained success

-

Fresh off their maiden finals appearance since joining the West Gippsland Football Netball Competition, the Dusties are hard at work in season 2023.

The team's run to the preliminary final from sixth position shocked many around the league, though those within the four walls knew what the team was capable of.

In the end it took a goal after the siren in extra time from the mighty Phillip Island to knock the Dusties out in what was one of the greatest games of local footy you'll ever see, but it's left a sense of unfinished business.

The senior side is currently on the precipice of the top six, and though a few tough results have gone against them they've shown their best can present anyone with a challenge.

They pushed reigning premiers Tooradin-Dalmore right to the line in round two, and will be looking to recapture that form as they look to try and establish sustained success.

The Dusties boast a healthy mix of youth and experience in the senior team, with veterans Shane Brewster and Luke Walker (who recently chalked up his 350th senior game) leading the way.

They have plenty of further motivation following the announcement that this will be highly experienced and respected senior coach Harmit Singh's final season at the helm.

Regardless of how season 2023 finished up Singh will leave behind a strong legacy, having developed the team into a side expecting to contend year in year out.

The club is now on the hunt for their next coach and will be putting on an extensive search for the person that best fits to continue their progression.

The Warragul Industrials reserves side has also shown some promise as their players put up some healthy pressure for spots in the senior team.

They're fairly fresh off an upset win over Cora Lynn's reserves, and will be taking plenty of confidence out of that going forward.
