CATANI moved two games clear inside the top five as the Ellinbank District reserves ladder continues to take shape.

The Blues were big winners over Poowong, 16-14 (110) to 0-2 (2), in a round where the top five teams continued to stamp their authority.

A first quarter return of 2-6 gave the Magpies some chance early, only for the Blues to kick away. Five goals in the second term and six majors in the final quarter setting up the big score.

Ryan Orridge, Nathaniel Rodda, Mitchell Gregson, Jack Hobson, Adam Jacobs and Jayden Lay led the way in the strong win.

The Magpies were best served by Fiachra Staunton, Lachlan Waters, Tyran Lord, Brady Rayner, Riley Lewis and Jake Peacock.

NEERIM-NEERIM SOUTH controlled a low scoring affair against Nilma-Darnum, winning 8-10 (58) to 3-1 (19).

The Cats gradually worked towards a sixgoal margin at the final change, before an even final term that realised two goals apiece.

Six goals to nil in the final term saw the margin blow out.

Jared Lane, Thomas Jessup, Bryce Monahan, Sean Symes, Matthew Garner and Jaryd Kelly helped the Lyrebirds to a strong finish.

ELLINBANK had plenty of contributors in its big win over Yarragon, 18-11 (119) to 2-3 (15).

The Eagles put through 11-6 to just one behind in a dominant second half.

The Magpies booted three goals in the second quarter to charge out of the blocks, going on to win 6-2 (38) to 5-5 (35).

The Lyrebirds kicked three goals of their own in the third term to bridge the gap to four points at the final change, one goal apiece in the final term sealing the result for the Magpies.

The loss saw the visitor miss a chance to crack into the top five.

Gavin Monson, Kohen Mandemaker, Bryce Broadmore, Marty Cook, Zachary Sherar and Jett Blackwood helped push the Magpies to victory.

Tyler Steenholdt, Aiden Smythe, Charles Kilmartin, Jake Vaughan, Jesse Jagoe and Zak Nakamura led the comeback for Buln Buln.

LONGWARRY kicked away following a tight start to comfortably account for Lang Lang.

Leading by nine points at the first change, the Crows kicked six of the next seven goals to open a handy buffer on the way to winning 10-9 (69) to 5-5 (35).

ELLINBANK have responded from their disappointing loss to Lang Lang, comfortably accounting for its next mid-table challenger in Yarragon to move a game clear into second position.

The Panthers had their moments and were particularly competitive in the first term, but Ellinbank showed why it is ultimately a top three team on the way to winning 15-6 (96) to 5-4 (34).

With both sides emerging some 20 minutes before the scheduled match start to adjust to the conditions, the pace and intensity was on from the start.

Ellinbank made the first move and while initially denied by a strong Yarragon tackle, the Eagles went again and found Keegan Bott on the lead for the opener.

Yarragon remained competitive as the contest became an arm wrestle, the Panthers finally able to break it open to take the ball the length of the field to find Nathanael Dungey in space.

Jake Harper won the centre clearance to spark the immediate response as the Eagles put through a running goal.

Nicholas Pratt took the reward after Shaun Phelan was felled after he kicked on the wing as Ellinbank moved clear.

But they would go into the first change with a challenge on their hands, Damian Allison at the fall of the ball to snap and close the margin to six.

The Panthers' challenge continued early in the second term, with a long shot from Blair

Clymo carrying the line to level the scores.

Ellinbank responded, booting the next four goals to establish the buffer they needed.

Phelan worked to the front to snap from the top of the square, before the Eagles used space on the outer side to find Liam Lisle in the pocket.

Thomas Bingham evaded three to run through centre half forward for another impressive goal. He had a hand in the next as he broke away from a stoppage, Anthony Battista converting the downfield free kick.

Yarragon went long from the middle to scramble a late goal and head into half time still in touch, the margin three goals at the long break.

Tyler Payroli, Zak Hogton, Tyler Hotchkin, Ryan Devine, Robert Hermann and Trav Davis were all being industrious to keep their side in it.

The battle continued in a torrid third term, Phelan streaming through the middle to set up a long goal in what would be the only goal of the quarter.

Ellinbank would again respond to the challenge, getting their running game going to take control for a dominant final term.

Phelan snapped the first before shepherding through a long goal from Rylan Smith as the Eagles began to take control. A long goal from Gaige White further increased the margin.

Bryce Joyce, Ryan Atherton, Smith, Harper, Battista and Phelan were leading the charge and while Yarragon added their fifth against the run of play, Ellinbank sealed it with the next four.

LANG LANG continued its resurgent form to defeat Longwarry in a thrilling contest and put themselves back in the mix for a top five finish.

Led by an inspired performance from assistant coach Darren Granger, the Crows were at their best and challenged the Tigers despite missing dynamic forward Braydon McHugh.

Lang Lang would prevail by just six-points in a see-sawing affair, 10-10 (70) to 9-10 (64).

Quick ball movement from the wing saw Lang Lang score first, before the Crows responded with consecutive goals.

Brad Martin dribbled one through for the Tigers to put them back in front, before a smooth snap from Fintan Fox saw another lead change.

A dangerous kick across goal saw Lachlan Barwick cut off the Crows' pass and put through the first of five majors for the day.

A classy pick up from Brad Ventura put Lang Lang further ahead, before Barwick streamed out from the goal square on the lead to hand the Tigers a 17-point advantage at the long break.

Jedd Serong took a forward ruck contest and put the Crows back in it, taking the ball out of the air and converting with a quick kick similar to that of Brisbane Lions young gun Will Ashcroft earlier in the AFL season.

Fox worked through three opponents to snap towards goal, Matthew Knights on the end of it to close the gap to just four points.

Lachlan Barwick responded with a steadier for the Tigers, only for the Crows to close within four again, Jedd Serong poking a pass to Jake Serong as the teams headed to the final break with the result on the line.

Barwick, Brown, Bradley Ventura, Lincoln King, Jason Stokkel and Brad Harding were standing up for the Tigers, while keeping the Crows in the contest were Cooper Brown, Granger, Fox, Angus Young, Jedd Serong and Ben Cuckson.

It would be Lang Lang to convert the important first goal upon resumption as Ventura hit up Chase Jordan.

Barwick found some separation to convert and also put some separation on the scoreboard, the margin back out to 16.

An opportunistic goal from Knights sparked Longwarry, Jedd Serong converting soon after to see the Crows close within five points.

Whittling away the margin to three, the Crows continued their momentum as speed from the middle from Brown set up Fox, who dished off to Granger for a long goal from 55 metres to put the Crows in front.

With Dylan Gallasch sent to quell Fox, the contest had come to life.

Lang Lang would ultimately deny the Crows, Josh Brown finding Jordan out the back to stroll into an open goal to regain the lead.

A chaotic snap to match the frantic finish resulted in a free kick to the Tigers, Barwick icing the game with his fifth.
