Heat­wave hits hard

THREE peo­ple in War­wick and two in Stan­thorpe pre­sented to emer­gency de­part­ments with heat-re­lated con­di­tions, in­clud­ing de­hy­dra­tion, faint­ing and heat stress/sun­stroke on Mon­day. Dur­ing the course of last sum­mer, there were 24 heat-re­lated pre­sen­ta­tions at War­wick Hos­pi­tal and 15 at Stan­thorpe Hos­pi­tal. Dar­ling Downs Pub­lic Health Unit di­rec­tor Penny Hutchin­son re­minded res­i­dents to be mind­ful of their health dur­ing pe­ri­ods of higher-than-av­er­age tem­per­a­tures. Dr Hutchin­son urged res­i­dents to ap­ply sun­screen, drink wa­ter and stay in­doors dur­ing hot weather.
