Nominate a volunteer for $500 club award
VOLUNTEER AWARDS: Nominations are welcome for the Condamine Sports Club Volunteer of the Year award.
The nominating club for the volunteer of the year receives $500 from the Condamine Sports Club.
For many years, the Merv Lancaster Memorial Sports Volunteer of the Year honoured many outstanding volunteers. There was then a break in the volunteer awards before it was re-started when the Condamine Sports Club came up with the annual $500 winner’s prize to the nominating club.
The Condamine Sports Club also supplies trophies for the overall winner and each of the nominees.
There have been five winners of the sports club volunteer of the year award down the years.
Long-time hockey volunteer Darryl Gillam was the inaugural winner in 2013, followed by Warwick Gymnastic Club member and event secretary Dani Peel in 2014.
Tracey Sexton from Riding for the Disabled won in 2015 and then Greg Carey from the Warwick Cowboys Rugby League football club in 2016. Both had second sports, Sexton in eventing and Carey in athletics.
In 2017, the winner was Kerri Fitch, a long-time volunteer in little athletics, hockey and volleyball.
The Daily News supports the Condamine Sports Club in the running of the volunteer awards and nominations are welcome to sports editor Gerard Walsh on ger[email protected]wick dailynews.com.au. The information included with the nomination is passed on to the junior sports star judges to determine an overall winner.
The judges’ decision will be based half on the volunteer work in 2018 and half on volunteer work down the years. The Daily News and Warwick Credit Union are involved in senior and junior sports star awards with email nominations welcome to Gerard Walsh at the Daily News.
