Man ran out of store with gold bracelet
A MAN who liked the way a $2200 gold bracelet looked on his wrist has been fined $1000 for leaving a Rockingham jewellers while wearing it.
Appearing via video link from Acacia prison, Jake Black pleaded guilty to stealing in Rockingham Magistrates Court on January 12.
The prosecutor said Black was identified from CCTV footage in Prouds the Jewellers at Rockingham City Shopping Centre on October 25 last year.
He said Black went to the store at 4.14pm and asked a staff member if he could look at a gold bracelet worth $2199.
He then put it on his wrist, admiring it for a moment and asked the staff member questions about the bracelet.
Black then suddenly ran out of the store with the bracelet on his wrist.
When interviewed by police he told them: “Yeah, that was me. I was waiting for that one.”
Black told Magistrate Leanne Atkins he agreed with the facts.
“Why did you decide to run?” she asked.
Black replied: “I was already facing jail and on the run. I seen it and I just left.”
She fined him $1000 and ordered he pay $2199 compensation to Prouds jewellers.
