One-day final berth for Seconds
KWINANA Cricket Club’s secondgrade team scraped into the OneDay final despite defeat, while Fifth Grade put on an impressive display to claim victory in their last one-day match of the season on Saturday
Second Grade travelled to Hilton Palmyra with the opportunity of claiming a home grand final with a win. Kwinana won the toss and decided to bat first.
Unfortunately, this is where the positives ended, as Kwinana then rolled for 56.
Hilton Palmyra chased the total down comfortably and ended the innings on 6-158.
Despite the loss, Kwinana scraped into the grand final by 0.22 points over third-placed Maddington.
The final will be a rematch at Melville Reserve against the undefeated Hilton Palmyra on February 18.
Fifth Grade took on CBC at home in their final one-day game of the season. After losing the toss they were put into the field.
CBC were restricted to 6-133 thanks to a great all-round effort from the bowlers, with Steve Nichols ending with 2-17.
The run chase started shakily at 3-39 but an outstanding partnership of 104 between Kim Kothstein (52) and Roy Field (39) gave victory and pushed Kwinana's total to 9-184.
Second and Fifth grades resume two-day matches tomorrow.
One-Day Fs travelled to Armadale in round 13. Kwinana made a competitive total of 7-148.
Nicholas Tolotti top-scored with his first 50 of the season, but Armadale made 6-190 to claim a 42-run victory.
SJ Blues forfeited to One-Day Cs.
Second Grade succumbed but made the final, while Fifth Grade was in sparkling form.
