Teen pleads guilty to crash charges

A TEENAGER has pleaded guilty to charges over a Se­cret Har­bour crash last year that killed two of his friends and se­ri­ously in­jured an­other.

Joel John Payne was charged with two counts of dan­ger­ous driv­ing caus­ing death and a third charge of dan­ger­ous driv­ing caus­ing griev­ous bod­ily harm.

Payne (19) was driv­ing his friends Ma­son Hooton (17), Cal­lum Mum­mery (19) and Shaun Spar­row (16) to a party in his sil­ver Toy­ota Supra when he crashed into a tree in Se­cret Har­bour on Oc­to­ber 6.

Mr Hooton and Mr Mum­mery were both killed in the crash.

Mr Spar­row was crit­i­cally in­jured.

Payne re­ceived mi­nor in­juries.

Payne is due to ap­pear at the District Court on April 13 for a sen­tenc­ing date.
