CARAVAN PARK IDEA
NOW that the prospect of Point Peron being ruined by inappropriate development that would be for the enjoyment of the few rather than the majority seems to be gone, maybe my suggestion might be worthy of consideration.
The tourist potential of the area is not in question and needs to be available to all, not just those with bulging wallets and I think the community might support the development of a tourist, repeat, tourist only, caravan park, with appropriate time limits within the Point Peron area.
A tourist caravan park would blend quite well with other suggested attractions we have heard suggested for the area.
There are several companies around Australia such as Big4, Top Tourist and others, and also many councils who create very attractive parks that do not accept permanents and create very enjoyable parks with varying accommodation choices ranging from self contained cabins, powered caravan sites and camping sites.
Many of them also have restaurants and cafes that are open to the public, tennis courts, pools, bike hire and many other attractions, and they are invariably kept very neat and tidy with lawns and gardens and as tourist only parks, they have time limits to ensure they stay that way and there is almost nil noise at night.
Tourist parks such as I am suggesting are a huge magnet to many in caravans and travellers who travel around this country, and to have one at Point Peron would bring muchneeded income to the entire area with travellers enjoying all that our area has to offer while they stay for a week or two.
Without in any way denigrating any caravan parks that are already here, the ones who advertise tourist park and don't offer or provide permanent sites and are in such a top seaside area will bring much-needed income to this area.
No doubt, some will see issues but as a caravan traveller, I can speak from experience and am confident that this type of attraction would be a major plus for the Rockingham area. PETER EDWARDS, Safety Bay FREDERICK KEMPS, Karnup
