Canteen a shining star

Weekend Courier - - Street Watch -

STAR of the Sea Catholic Primary School has one of the healthiest canteens in WA.

The canteen was awarded a four-star rating in the Star Canteen Accreditation Program (StarCAP2) , achieving a 93 per cent rating.

The school placed second overall in the state.

StarCAP2 is a program that awards schools operating healthy canteens by using a star rating. It is based on best management practice and current legislative requirements.

Canteen manager Tracy Skipworth has worked tirelessly over the past two years to produce a wide selection of healthy food.

Principal Steve Dowie said students had benefited from the introduction of a schoolwide healthy eating program, which had removed all ‘redmuni d480774 light’ food, and significantly reduced sugar and salt from the available food.

“We are also very proud of our parents and school community, who have supported and promoted a healthy lunch box initiative, eliminating unhealthy snacks and processed foods as well as supporting waste-wise initiatives that reuse, recycle and reduce,” he said.
