Dead calf on beach

Weekend Courier - - Front Page -

A DEAD baby dolphin washed up on a Rockingham beach on Tuesday.

Safety Bay resident Sam Peters came across the distressing sight about 1.45pm about 40m left of the Safety Bay boat ramp.

“It was a bit upsetting given it’s obviously a baby,” she said.

“I walk these beaches every chance I get and seeing a baby dolphin washed up deceased with no apparent injuries is distressing.

“I reported it to the local council to pass it on to the respective authorities.

“It’s sad to see and locals need to be made aware of it, for sure.

“There’s always dead birds in the area; not sure if it’s related to that.”

A Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions spokeswoman said the City of Rockingham assisted to remove the calf.

“It has been sent to Murdoch University for testing,” she said.
